Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas, entering your home and business through cracks in the foundation, slab, or sump pit. When this occurs and goes undetected, radon can elevate to dangerous levels.

Given that radon is second to smoking as the most common cause of lung cancer (according to the US Surgeon General), Kentuckians have good reason to be on alert. There are NO safe levels of radon. Radon is a serious matter, and everyone should know how to detect it. It’s important to understand that radon can be dealt with easily but you don’t want to wait until you’re ill before you address the problem.

That’s why it’s important to test your home and place of business for radon. Testing can be done by calling Lexington Radon, or through use of an at-home kit. Though in general, it’s best to leave this to the experts. Professionals will understand the radon level readings and can more accurately pinpoint its origination.

Pinpointing where the radon is coming from aids in the abatement (removal) process. Typically, this process begins in the basement or crawl space of a home. If you can’t fully seal off the basement from the soil, a secondary (fan-assisted) method of abatement is needed. The soil isn’t the problem. Radon abatement seeks to aid in the transmission of radon from the soil into the structure via air pressure differentials.

Removing radon involves circulating the air, blowing out the bad air and introducing fresh air. Again, if your home or business isn’t sealed off from the soil, installing a radon abatement system is an affordable option to optimize your air quality.

Radon abatement systems also do not adversely affect a home’s resale value, and since radon is so easily controlled once detected, there’s no reason not to buy a property with one of these systems.

Lexington Radon was the only company willing to take on our project. I was in the construction business for many years, so I typically do everything on my own home and rental property. My home was so complicated that neither I or any other contractor would touch it. Gerald looked at it and said he loved a challenge. He provided a bid that was reasonable and completed the job quickly. If I ever need radon mitigation again Lexington Radon is the only contractor I will use. I recommend them highly.
